Lyman Whitaker graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Utah. He lives and works in the desert and loves the solitude and the intensity of the climate. It’s the perfect atmosphere for his inspiration and testing of the wind sculpture designs.

Many of his first and still most popular designs have been built on the double helix. "I've always been interested in science, especially the double helix spiral representing the DNA molecule," Lyman says, "Not only is it the symbol for infinity, it also ties into the basis of all life forms."

Lyman works closely with his wife and brother to ensure that each design is interpreted into a quality crafted piece of art that is hand made with a high degree of mechanical integrity. By placing the sculptures in settings dependent on natural elements for movement the artist hopes to generate a sense of calm serenity and playfulness in an otherwise fast-paced world. A sculptor for over 40 years, his fondest dream is to have his artwork symbolize a move toward better solutions in our relationship with the environment.
