D. Michael McCarthy’s paintings reflect his admiration for the Hudson River painters of days gone by. An avid hiker and traveler, Michael likes to find that unknown corner that catches the morning light or setting sun in a way that transforms the canvas and the viewer to a higher place. Each landscape is a rare jewel and collectors check often to see when El Prado is lucky enough to get a new piece from this exciting artist.

Landscapes Paintings By D. Michael McCarthy
D. Michael McCarthy’s hero is Thomas Moran, and his paintings clearly reveal the influence of the Hudson River School. But they also reflect his personal experiences backpacking, kayaking, canyoneering or mountain climbing to remote and beautiful sites around the world. McCarthy familiarizes himself intimately with the terrain before beginning a painting. McCarthy's love of nature propels him to find "that wilder image."
