Jeff Margolin’s pottery has graced many exquisite homes and continues to be a popular item in El Prado’s eclectic art collection. Each pot is hand carved and finished with horse hair in the final firing to create that one of a kind vessel Jeff is famous for.

Jeff Margolin's Profile

As with most artists, Jeff Margolin settled into life as an artist having already received training in another field. Jeff has received degrees in both economics and political theory. Having no interest in formal art training, Jeff developed his skill and aesthetic by associating with other artists and their ideas through work collectives and other art associations. He also draws inspiration from his surroundings, having relocated his studio many times to areas such as Santa Fe, Boston and Munich.

His work is the result of a four-step process where the pieces are built or thrown, carved, burnished and pit-fired. The distinct patterns visible are the result of the organic materials he uses for the firing. Aside from working in his studio, he devotes a proportion of his time to helping ceramics studios that are public, non-profit. He divides his time each year between San Francisco and Boston.
