Linda Demetre's Profile

Linda Demetre started her love affair with painting using oil bars. She explains, "because they fit my temperament; I could paint free and loose and still obtain those vibrant colors. The hands-on characteristic added extra excitement in the creative process." As her work progressed, she found new freedom in the subtle palettes from mixing oils and working with a brush.

Collectors of her work comment on the intimacy she captures on canvas. "Figurative work is my favorite," Demetre says. "There is nothing more beautiful than the human form. Two people interacting together says it all. If you can catch a tilt of the head and the lift of the eyebrows, then the mood is captured. Maybe all artists have a bit of that voyeurism when it comes to studying people, but a solitary female in a reflective setting can't be topped for appeal. What are they thinking? That's the language and magic of painting."

Demetre has been in several juried shows, winning numerous awards. She had two pieces in the show "Building Wise" at the Tacoma Art Museum. She received the Juror's Award for the painting "Knitting on Saturday Night." Demetre was a featured artist in the 2006 Camano Island Open Studio Tour.

Demetre's art has hung at Overlake Hospital, Bellevue City Hall and the Bellevue Art Museum. Currently, she has two pieces in the Seattle Art Museum. Individuals and corporations from the U.S. and Canada have collected her unique work. Demetre currently teaches art in Washington.
